BREAKING NEWS New public TV station to broadcast here next year

KOCE-TV, the only public television station in Orange County, will have a competitor in the near future. KCET, which covers Los Angeles and much of the Southland, announced plans Wednesday to partner with Cal State Fullerton to start a new Orange County digital channel.The station and the university plan to launch KCET Orange, a 24-hour network featuring news, local arts and educational programming, by fall of 2007. KCET, which launched in 1964, is the West Coast flagship station of PBS and reaches 11 counties, including Orange County. Although many viewers in Orange County already watch the Los Angeles-based KCET, the new station â€” which is separate â€” would provide more local coverage.

Polish Parliament Speaker, Deputies Discuss Dissolving Assembly

Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Polish Parliamentary Speaker Marek Jurek and his deputies will meet today to debate calling an extraordinary session to vote on dissolving the assembly and holding early elections.

Jurek, a member of the ruling Law & Justice party, will convene the meeting at 11:30 a.m. in Warsaw with the five deputies who represent all political parties after Citizens' Platform, the largest opposition party, demanded an extra parliamentary session ahead of the next scheduled sitting on Oct. 10.

The demand came after a Law & Justice official was taped offering inducements to an opposition lawmaker to switch sides. Law & Justice is seeking to regain a majority by asking lawmakers of former coalition partner Self Defense and the Polish Peasants' Party to support it after Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski fired Deputy Premier Andrzej Lepper, the head Self Defense.

Groundbreaking Broadcaster Ralph Story Dead at Eighty-Six

Ralph Story (born Ralph Bernard Snyder in Kalamazoo, MI), radio and television broadcast innovator, died Tuesday morning at his home in Santa Ynez, California at the age of 86 after a long battle with emphysema.Mr. Story began his career as a broadcaster in the late 1940s at KNX radio in Los Angeles. He was hired to host and direct a program about life in Southern California, which eventually gained him national exposure. His style was witty and casual, unusual at that time in the broadcasting field.From there, he moved from working in radio to network television and in 1956 became host of The $64,000 Challenge quiz show in New York. Several years later the show was cancelled after it was found out that some contestants were fed the answers to questions in order to increase ratings. Ralph was not implicated in the scandal and shortly thereafter returned to Los Angeles to start yet another phase of his life's work.

Public television pays one million euros for Romanian ER

Romanian TV series "La Urgenta" ("The Emergency Room") which will premiere Wednesday evening has a production budget of one million euros, said the director of the TV Romania, Irina Radu.
The sum accounts for the first 15 episodes and is covered by the TVR budget.
"La Urgenta" looks into the stories of a team of doctors from an emergency hospital in Bucharest, in their fight against diseases, death, the system and their own weaknesses.
Actor and director Florin Piersic Jr. plays one of the leading roles, Radu Panc, the prototype of the ideal doctor who is the opinion leader of his group and very passionate about his job. Other cast also includes Daniela Nane, Adriana Titieni and Lucian Staicu.
